Whether your horse, dog or any other animal is in need of rehabilitation after injury or trauma or in need of support for enhanced well-being or peak performance, veterinary chiropractic treatments and massage can provide a range of benefits, including improved flexibility, muscle tone, and circulation; tension release; pain relief; faster recovery; and improvement in mood.

Treatment

McTimoney Veterinary Chiropractic

McTimoney veterinary chiropractic treatment is a gentle, hands-only, non-invasive approach. It uses low-amplitude, high-velocity adjustments to the spinal vertebrae and pelvic region. These adjustments support the body as a whole, influencing multiple body systems, with each session tailored to the individual animal and their needs.

McTimoney veterinary chiropractic treatments improve straightness, performance and agility, can help reduce tension and discomfort, support nervous system communication, and assist with compensation patterns in performance animals and during rehabilitation.

Prior veterinary permission is required for McTimoney chiropractic treatment to be carried out on the day. Animals must be sound at the time of treatment, unless veterinary permission has been given with full knowledge of an existing condition.

Massage

For sporting animals like horses and competition dogs, regular sports massage therapy can make a significant difference in their overall health, mobility, and performance. In addition to increasing stamina, decreasing the risk of injury, and easing muscle soreness after training or competition, a well-designed therapy plan helps to flush out toxins and boost oxygen levels, leading to faster recovery and enhanced performance. Pre-event massage specifically aims to physically and mentally prepare your horse or dog for competition, whilst post-event massage can aid in recovery by promoting the drainage of lactic acid, reducing stiffness, and preventing delayed onset muscle soreness.

Jen carries out a thorough evaluation of every animal and ensures treatment is tailored to meet the individual needs of each animal to support their long-term wellness and enhanced physical condition. At JM Animal Therapy, the aim is to give every animal the care they need to lead an active, healthy life, whether for competition or simply for everyday comfort and vitality.

About Jen

Jenny Martin, Equine & Canine Massage Therapist

Jen’s passion for working with animals began at the age of 11, when she first started working with horses at a riding school. It was then that she quickly realised her life’s calling was to pursue a career in animal care. At 13, she got her first loan horse and has since owned her own. Jen has owned and trained multiple horses over the years, and she currently has three, two of which she events at different levels.

In 2018, Jen pursued formal education in equine studies at Abingdon and Witney College, earning a diploma in Equine Management. Building on this foundation, she attended Oxford Brookes University from 2020 to 2023, where she graduated with First Class Honours in Equine Science. Jenny also achieved a Graduate Certificate with distinction in Animal Therapy, and attended McTimoney College of Chiropractic, under Ulster University, where she achieved a MSc in Animal Manipulation (Chiropractic).

Since founding JM Animal Therapy, Jen has worked with a diverse range of animals, specialising in equine and canine McTimoney veterinary chiropractic and massage treatments. She is particularly interested in the use of kinesiology tape to improve animal performance, health, and welfare through non-invasive techniques. Jenny dedicates herself to promoting optimal health and recovery for animals, ensuring a positive and reassuring experience for both the animals and their owners. Her approach prioritises the overall health of the animals, focussing on enhancing both their physical condition and mental well-being.
